I feel sorry for people who have had acceptances recently and now won't be published. I also have a subscription. I really liked this magazine too. There isn't another print magazine in my area that is fantasy only.

Crap! If they still have subscriptions why don't they just hold it open for a while and see if it gets better?

I can't stand business people who don't just hold on until the bad trend passes. Just stick it out. That's a shame.

"Cleveland said the April issue is currently at the printer, and will be published. The reasons she was given for the closure were plummeting newsstand sales. 'Subscriptions are good, and advertising, until very recently, was fine.' She blamed the economic downturn and newsstand distribution for the closure."

Judging from the quote in the article about advertising, I wonder if maybe major advertisers pulled out. A magazine, I suspect, probably makes most of its money from adspace.

I hope they at least keep it alive online, but judging from how often they update the website I shouldn't think that would happen. :/

Yes, I saw that. We've had major advertisers pull out where I work, too. We made the paper smaller, shortened hours, but kept the paper going. It's their patriotic duty, IMHO, to keep it going as long as they can. And it looks to me as if they just decided to panic. It looks like a rash decision if even the website doesn't have anything up.

So I got what I am assuming is my last issue of Realms of Fantasy today. I haven't read it yet, but the cover is a picture of what I think is the new Watchmen movie coming out. I believe they said it was this issue that was at the printer when they got the news of the magazines shutdown. Ironically it was wrapped in the usual renewal notice I get with every issue. They just probably didn't bother to have them removed, but I haven't received any other notice that RoF is closing, so I wonder how subscribers who don't get the internet will know or react? Lucky for me, (not that I'm happy about any of this,) I think this was the last issue in my subscription, so I won't have to switch over subscription to a magazine I don't even like.

Here's a link to an add on of the article link I posted before.

Some people are very hopeful that RoF won't close, but if fan support didn't save the magazine, I don't see how it can do it now? oh well, I hope they do some online version of the magazine, but then that may not be profitable either what with the plethora of other online scifi/fantasy/horror magazines there are.

    Thoughts?

They said the April issue was the last issue.

It all depends on who owns the rights and what the publisher will allow, I think at this point. Firefly and Roswell had big fan bases, but they still got shut down. They were tv shows, not magazines, but still. The people with the money didn't care in the long run.
