Just venting....

Does anyone read critically anymore? Like pay attention to what they're reading? They don't pay attention to how the speak or write. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that they don't pay attention to how different statements qualify each other.

    Oh baby~!!!

It is harder and harder to find well written Fiction. Most of it is ground out on some software that cranks language out for the so called author.

Simmons, Varley, Bova, Herbert ( the father, not the son), Benford, Card, Feist, Wolf

Recently I've read Jack McDevitt. He is a pretender no talent bum.

I have found it so very hard to find good writing that I've contemplated starting a web site that crucifies the modern crop of morons in public when ever they produce another crop of toadstools.

Crappy plot development, uninteresting characters, bad grammar. inexcusably inaccurate technical details, sentences that end in prepositions, lame efforts to fob off politics onto the reader. The list goes on.

Cliff, you could be talking about movies or fiction books! I feel like every movie I've watched lately has spent the entire movie budget on big name actors and special effects in the attempt to distract the viewers from a complete lack of plot or character development. In regards to fiction, it never ceases to amaze me how some books managed to make it to printing. Or how some authors continue to publish books even though their books have become unbearably formulaic, with recycled lines and repackaged characters from previous books.

It wasn't writers writing so much, though it does seem like there's some sloppy stuff out there. It's more on the internet when we all interact online using our grammar and spelling and such. We just seem to be sloppy "listeners" or readers or something online. For example, someone could say, like I just did, "just venting" and then follow up with the vent. Now both you guys obviously read and pay attention. You see that statement and know I'm just venting. I'm not trying to solve anything, I just want to get it out of my system. Yet, there will be others who just read the vent, don't see the "Just Venting" at the beginning and suddenly either I'm in trouble for calling everyone illbred and uneducated, or they're trying to solve the problem.

      Make any sense?

I'm not nearly so irritated about it now, because now I'm on vacation and typing this to you in the middle of the night from my dad's computer. But at the time, it just really bugged me. Seemed it might be something other writers would get. And you did.

      Thanks!
