Job Postings

So, I've been trying to sign up at different places to get free lance work. None of it has panned out yet, but I am getting entertained by all the job listings where they say "I have a great idea for a novel but I can't write it. I am looking for someone else to do it. Already have idea. Should be easy."

Ha.

Here's one listing that's a case in point:

<<I am looking for a writer to pen my Sci-fi epic!!! Due to the secretive nature of the story line I will tell you it after I've read a sample of your work, and we meet in person. The story is very unique, and dear to my heart. I just don't have the talent to take on such a tail without destroying or simplifying my vision. The writer I am looking for is fun, Sci-fi saavy, smart, and easy going. To save alot of time and talk, You would be doing this project on SPEC. My lawyers have a deal memo already in place for the two books (It is a two book series), you wouldn't be a ghost writer. There is a potential first look deal at Random house, with definite publishablility. If you love the story and agree to the deal, then a novel we will have. Thank you for taking a chance.>>

At least it's entertaining. .....

Ha indeed! Why write someone else's story on spec when you can write your own? "Potential first look deal" means "my cousin once said she went out with someone who knew an assistant editor who used to work for Random House's Xlibris division."

I think you are doing yourself a massive disservice. You should leap at these supremely excellent opportunities. The chance may never come again.

    Call now.
