A question on folk tales

If anyone here is a fan of folk tales, (as am I!) i was wondering if you have heard this one before, (or another like it, in another culture.)

I heard it a long time ago, and this is the best i can remember it.

In a Native American tale, there is an old woman who is knitting a blanket and cooking a stew. The story goes, that if she ever finishes the making the blanket, the world will end. Every once in a while, she gets up to stir the pot of stew. While she is doing that, her dog, who sits by at all times, gets up and begins to unravel the blanket, completely undoing the work she just did.

Terry Pratchett did a version of this tale in one of his Wee Free Men books in which once a year, a raven flies to the end of the earth and sharpens his beak on a mountain, if the mountain is worn down to a grain of sand, then the world will end.

Anyone heard of these kinds of tales before?

I have heard the one about the blanket but I can't remember where. My grandmother has a old book of folk tales. I would have to dig in the garage for it but now it may be a mission. I will get back to you...
